As the fifth generation in my family to work in construction, a career in this industry has been a natural life progression. As no two days are the same, it has suited my ADHD perfectly.
I spent most of my career in the traditional sector but was always frustrated with its systems and things being done because that’s the way they’ve always been done. Stepping into the modular industry has been one of the most exciting moves I’ve made, as new ideas and systems are encouraged. Enlight10 was started to fulfil the gap in providing a reliable, efficient and innovative M&E contractor to the modular sector.
We push out of the box thinking in all aspects of our business and thrive in taking on every challenge and opportunity that comes our way.
I’m a big fan of keeping active and am always looking for a new adventure or challenge to partake in. I also love to read a variety of books and authors to gain new perspectives and insights.
Growing up in Ireland during The Celtic Tiger and working alongside my father from a young age in his Construction Company, I’ve always been aware of the exciting prospects and also potential pitfalls of construction.
Since moving to the UK in 2011, I have worked across multiple sectors in the construction industry, from residential and commercial to Data Centres and now Modular. This experience has helped me gain a wider appreciation for the Engineering disciplines and to encourage new ways of thinking that can help MMC develop into a leading force in the construction industry.
Since setting up Enlight10, we have looked to improve the offering in the M&E market, alongside our supply partners, and have come up with more efficient off-site solutions to speed up delivery programmes of projects for our clients. The work has only just begun, with our motivation and determination growing every day to develop and amplify Enlight10 and its offerings.
When I’m not in the office, you can find me on the golf course or planning my next golf tour.
I have over 35 years’ experience in Building Services Engineering, spending majority of this time leading the design and delivery of building projects in both the residential and commercial markets.
I started out working on high-profile projects in and around Central London, which included working with the Metropolitan Police Civil Staff Engineers. In 1998, I moved to “God’s Own Country” (South Yorkshire) and joined one of the largest construction companies in the country that specialises in community regeneration, leading their in-house M&E function. This led to many major renewable technology projects and a passion for using off-site assemblies to help speed up processes and improve quality.
5 years ago, I had the opportunity to move into Category 1 modular building manufacturing, which ultimately led me to my role of Design Manager at Enlight10.
After studying Interior Architecture and Design, I started work as an MEP Design Technician. I didn’t expect to stay in the industry but soon fell in love with M&E design and the fast pace of the modular industry. This passion led me to Enlight10.
I enjoy the problem-solving aspect of the job and the continuous learning and curiosity it fosters, as things change every day. It’s a very rewarding job knowing the direct impact our designs have on the comfort and well-being for those who use the buildings we create, and it’s fulfilling to see buildings I’ve helped design come to life. I’m also passionate about sustainability, which is one of the main reasons why I love modular design. I am a proud member of Women in BIM (WIB), a global community dedicated to supporting, empowering, and celebrating female professionals in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital construction. There is a gender imbalance in the industry, and I would like to see this change.
In my spare time, I enjoy Pilates, running, and walking. I am lover of food and living in York means having many great places to choose from. In summer, you will always find me in my favourite spot – the Northumberland coast.
I found the electrical industry at the age of 18 when I started working as a labourer for an M&E Company, working around the UK on modular building installations. I managed to progress within the company and took a keen interest in the electrical side of the M&E Installations.
After a couple of years of working away from home, I decided to move to a local Electrical company so I could study at college and gain the qualifications needed to continue working within the electrical industry. At 22 years of age, I returned to the modular industry and settled into a good job for 9 years. Within this role, I continued studying and became a qualified electrician.
I worked hard and managed to become a supervisor after a couple of years. I spent the next 7 years travelling the UK, installing modular buildings, and supervising teams of electricians.
At 31 years old, I started my own electrical contracting company and employed my own team. I built up a profitable business over a 7-year period, but Covid put an uncertain future in front of me, so I decided to return to the modular industry as it became a safe industry to work in through the covid lockdowns, due to being classed as a ‘key worker industry’.
In 2023, I was employed by Enlight10 as an Electrical supervisor at the production factories in Driffield. In the first 6 months of my employment, Enlight10 progressed my career further and have given me the relevant training and qualifications to become an Electrical Manager for them at the factories.
In this role, I have a good work life balance due to the working times. The early finish on a Friday means I can pick my children up from school and have a longer weekend doing our hobbies together which include growing fruit and veg in our garden or catching fish from our local beach.
I started out in this industry working on the shop floor – from blade repair of wind turbines to working with fibre glass, I’ve done it all. I then spent nearly 20 years in the caravan industry.
A few years ago, one of daughters played for the Hull City Ladies Football Club which Reds10 sponsors. As part of the partnership, Reds10 offered a tour of their factory and I volunteered to be a guardian for this excursion. I ended up finding it all very interesting and thinking at the time it seemed like a very cool place to work.
After the caravan factory I worked in shut down, I started looking for another job and came across an ad for a Factory Manager where the company description sounded like what I had seen that day, so I went ahead and applied. It turned out to be at that very factory with Enlight10 and I was right – it is a cool place to work.
In my spare time, it’s all football. I am either coaching my grassroots football team or driving my girls to their football practice at their respective clubs – Doncaster Bells and Cottingham Rangers.
I started out in this industry building shower pods when people started noticing I had a real knack for identifying issues in products long before others did. This keen eye led me to being promoted into a Senior Quality Controller. Anything that needed to be inspected – from screws to walls to fire safety – had to be signed off by me.
I was on the lookout for a new company and career path, when Enlight10 offered me a job, I’m pretty sure the neighbourhood heard both my wife and me squeal with excitement.
I love what I do and working with this easy-going and ambitious team. I am very keen and determined to build a career here.
On the weekend, I’m with my kids driving them to their various activities. On Saturdays, it’s swimming in the morning for my son then gymnastics for my daughter in the afternoon. I was a gymnast too when I was younger and the only boy in my age group that could do the splits. Please don’t ask me to do them now, though!
I have done and been many things in my work life – from starting out in office administration and estimating, to becoming Parts Manager in the automotive industry – working with Nissan, Peugeot, and Mitsubishi to name a few. I then spent a few years working within the Prison Service and the financial services sector, but stock management was my real passion and I eventually returned to it, becoming Operations Manager for a fast-growing online retailer.
During this time, we ‘negotiated’ our way through Brexit. After being with them for 10 years, I decided a change was as good as a rest. This decision was followed by a short spell as Stores Manager with another modular company before joining the Enlight10 team.
My all-time favourite film is Jaws and I have always wanted to visit one of the Great White shark meccas to dive (in a cage, of course) with these awesome (or jaw-someJ) creatures. In 2017 I managed to achieve this dream when visiting South Africa.
I worked in the education field for nearly 40 years before joining the Enlight10 team. I taught children from the ages of 3 to 13 years old in both private and government schools in South Africa and Botswana.
I took on various roles beyond the classroom too and was part of many management teams in the schools I taught in. I was Deputy Head for Roedean, one of the top girls’ schools in South Africa and Executive Head for five years within the Curro Group, a leading independent school network in South Africa.
I also worked as the Head of Management and Development for Grade R in South Africa and am a SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Specialist. When my husband and I relocated over to the UK, we moved to the lovely little town of Rugby, and I did supply teaching work in and around the area but felt I needed a change.
As the Accounts Assistant I am responsible for the day-to-day office administration, aiming to make the working environment as streamlined and efficient as possible. I like to take problems away from people so they can focus on the bigger, more important things.
I enjoy physical activities such as running, walking and cycling. I have 150 park runs to my name. I am very passionate about helping people, in business and in life, and spend my spare time reading up on ways to do so.
I grew up in a coal mining town in the Northeast before moving to East Yorkshire in the early 90s to be with my future wife. I worked in the shot blasting manufacturing industry for 24 years, in which I became the process plant operator and heavy plant operator for the site.
Unfortunately, the site was closed but on a positive side, it led to my career at Enlight10. I can see a very bright future here, using my past work experience to help the company move forward, and help any new employees that join us.
I have two brilliant children and a passion for football. Unfortunately supporting Newcastle has been difficult over the years, but hopefully we are now on an upward curve. My wife and I also love a day at the races, despite usually having to watch my selections come last!!!
I have worked in the advertising world for nearly 15 years as a Strategic Planner and Social Media Manager, identifying and developing paths of success for many brands.
I have always loved a good story and thrive in digging deep into the real essence of a brand to find the best way to tell theirs. I’ve also spent many years developing content strategies and representing brands in their online communities.
It’s super exciting to work with such a young company like Enlight10, helping them establish their unique position within a very competitive environment and be able to watch the company reach its goals and vision.
When I’m not putting together strategies or managing our online platforms, you can find me writing, running or walking my dog Macaroon in our local park.
When I finished school, I was uncertain about my career path. This uncertainty led me to an experience which, in hindsight, was both practical and transformative.
My stepfather had recently started an electrical and telecoms company and I began working there. This experience provided me with a unique opportunity to immerse myself in the world of electrical work. I discovered a sense of satisfaction in troubleshooting and resolving electrical issues and this hands-on experience sparked my interest and passion for the field. I then decided to pursue Electrical Engineering when furthering my studies.
After completing my Degree, I landed a job with an electrical contractor in Barbados, working my way up from Junior Engineer to General Manager. In 2023, I relocated to the UK to join my family.
It was a struggle at first to get a job without UK experience, but Enlight10 gave me that opportunity. I am really enjoying understanding the modular side of construction and expanding my knowledge beyond electrical and into mechanical and plumbing too. It’s quite interesting to see buildings 70-75% complete by the time they leave the factory and land on site, with just a few parts that need zipping up.
Time away from project managing is spent with my family, taking our daughter on fun outings, or watching the premier league – Come on you Gunners!
I started in this industry on the shop floor sweeping up as an electrical labourer. I remember asking my supervisor at the time if they would help sponsor an electrical course for me and was told “Don’t bother, you’ll never be good enough, you can’t even speak English.”
I am big believer in lifting people up and find it very off-putting when people drag others down. From there, I completed an apprenticeship with Havenkey LTD, who gave me an invaluable grounding for my professional life. I then went on to join some of the most recognised names in the construction industry, working with great teams and delivering successful projects. Now I am with Enlight10 and super grateful to the recruitment team for getting me here.
It’s really exciting to be with such a young company, their story has only just started.
Some things people won’t know about me – in my younger days, I was a rave scene DJ and can still spin some pretty mean tunes. I’ve also climbed more peaks and walked more trails that I care to remember. I am a big fan of go-kart racing and reading philosophy, with Nietzche being a particular favourite.
From a young age, I’ve always been fascinated by the inner workings of objects, taking toys apart and (sometimes) putting them back together.
After school, I headed straight into work, becoming an electrician by trade. In the past six years, I have worked my way up from a supervisor role to now being a Project Manager for Enlight10. I am passionate about improving the lived-in experience of our armed forces.
Enlight10 has allowed me to enjoy a fulfilling job, while being part of fast-paced and exciting world of modular construction and also enhancing my professional development. I am now a qualified Project Manager.
When I’m not working, you can find me spending time in the countryside with my wife and three kids or supporting my favourite team – West Ham.
